Why Reading Paper Book Is Still Preferred By Many?

Which is better, an e-book reader or a traditional paperback? This is just one of questions that have popped out ever since the Kindle and iPad were introduced. But, even with the convenience and features that these gadgets offer, some people still prefer to flip the pages of a book and thumb its words as they read along. Why is that?

  • You can truly own it. According to an American philosopher, author, and educator, Mortimer Adler, full ownership only happens when you make something a part of yourself. Now one way you can do that with books is when you write your name on it. Well, can you do the same on ebooks and audiobooks? In most cases, your claim on such reading materials is virtual and sometimes revocable.

  • It offers a tangible experience. With a traditional book, you can hold, touch, and smell it as you go through the lines and paragraphs. This is especially true if you are reading an old book that has already been passed from one generation to another or has sat in the library for ages.

  • You get to fully enjoy it. Reading a novel is not meant to be shared with other tasks. That is because the only thing you must do is look and understand every word without any distraction. But, if you are using an iPad, for instance, then you will be tempted to do other things such as surf the Internet or chat online.

Aside from these, buying a printed novel gives you an opportunity to own a really old piece of literature, which probably had been given great value by its previous owners making it a sentimental and valuable possession.
